I little article I found dealing with the death penalty.

Yea I know it’s not the most uplifting article to kick off with but hey it interests me and thats all I need to know.  I’m also not saying that I don’t think some people aren’t really bad and need to be puished, but one of my best friends in the world who also happens to be the most conservative person I know went to law school believing in capital punishment and left saying there is no way it’s fair.  If there is enough evidence to convince Chuck of that (which I would have thought was impossible) then I’m on board with the let’s abolish the death penalty party.  Here’s an article I found dealing with it.

Reports, polls, court ruling point to thorny death penalty questions

WASHINGTON (CNS) — Two high-profile executions scheduled for July and one capital sentence blocked by the Supreme Court in June provide examples of the range of issues surrounding the death penalty in the United States.Combined with data from recent studies that show increasing public doubts about capital punishment and pointing to persistent racial disparities in how the federal death penalty is applied, and topped off with analyses of several states’ uses of it, all of these pieces reflect a conflicted populace and a sometimes messy judicial system.South Dakota carried out its first execution in nearly 60 years July 11, using lethal injection to kill Elijah Page, 25. Page confessed to helping torture and murder Chester Allen Poage in 2000 to cover up a robbery.Although Page’s defense attorneys pointed to a childhood of brutal abuse as an extenuating circumstance worth a reduction of his sentence to life imprisonment, he had given up on his appeals. Observers noted the case puts the state in the odd position of getting back into the business of executions just as other states are backing away from it.  (….for more click here)

My friend lost her battle with cancer yesterday.

9 07 2007

A friend I met just a couple of years ago lost her battle with cancer yesterday.  I can’t say I knew Joe particularly well, we met at Disney when she dated a fraternity brother of mine.  We instantly hit it off and kept in surprisingly good contact till the last couple months of her life.  My wife and I even got to see her and her beautiful nieces at Disney once again this year.  She left behind a caring brother and a very sweet sister in law along with those nieces and also a Aunt she adored who resides in Oklahoma.  Well enough with the fact of her life (there none of your business anyway, nosey).  I pray that for the first time in a number of years that Joe woke up from her pain and has been reunited with her parents.  I know this sounds awfully elementary but it gives me hope and makes me smile.  Ya’ll be good.

Hello world!

7 07 2007

Well here I am getting moved in to my new digs here a wordpress.  I like the look of it and hopefully it will encourage me to blog some more.  For those of you that don’t know me I’m a bit of a spiritual wanderer.  I grew up Methodist and eventually quite Church in High School opting to slum around the Eastern Paths, several years ago I became Catholic and quickly rebelled against the many theological rules, and became an Episcopalian.  In one of a couple U-turns I remained in the Catholic Church, eventually even scoring a job as a youth minister.  Now at the ripe young age of thirty I feel a calling.  I’ve always believed God wanted me to do something and I’ve even thought possibly becoming a Priest (episcopal or Eastern Rite) but the truth is I don’t know if I can do that.  I’m much more at home teaching and even though I found a great Episcopal Priest friend who said he would love to help me, I feel as though I’m only using that to get a title, because my theology is purely Catholic.  I don’t always follow the Churches rules but I try.  I’m also married to one of if not the most patient person on the planet earth, and I love my wife above all else.  She is truley a gift form heaven.  Anyway be real and I hope ya’ll enjoy my page.
